A 21-year-old mother of two, identified simply as Lilian, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for stabbing her 34-year-old partner to death during a domestic dispute at Ijanpa Road axis of the state.
Naijaonpoint reports that the state police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a post via his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday.
Edafe said Lilian had been cohabiting with the deceased since the relationship began when she was 17.
According to him, the suspect, during interrogation, admitted to stabbing her partner in the chest during an argument that turned violent.
He said, “She claimed he attempted to end their relationship, which led to a quarrel.
“She said he beat her with a cane and smashed her head on the ground before she rushed to the kitchen to get a knife.
“When he advanced towards her, she stabbed him despite warning him to stay away.”
Narrating the incident to Edafe, Lilian revealed that she stabbed her partner to defend herself after he tried to end the relationship with her.
She said that his attempt to end the relationship led to a misunderstanding between them, and a fight broke out.
Lilian also said that the deceased beat her with a cane and a comb, adding that she regretted the incident.
She said, “I have been living with him for four years now, and I have two boys with him. The first child is three years old and the other is two.
“On Monday, I do not know what triggered him, but we stopped talking. So, I asked him to collect the meter from our neighbour in order to recharge electricity, but he ignored me.
“So, we argued and he started beating me with a cane. So, after he smashed my head on the ground, I rushed to the kitchen to pick up a knife.
“I am not happy that he is dead.”
Edafe confirmed that the suspect will be charged with murder, while urging Nigerians to learn to manage their temper to avoid tragic outcomes.
