Immorality: Kano varsity shuts female hostel

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano metropolis.

The school cited serious safety, security, and disciplinary breaches as reasons for the closure.

The directive was made public in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, who said the decision followed reports of repeated violations of the university’s code of conduct.

“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.

According to Garba, the hostels in question failed to comply with established regulations governing private student accommodations.

“These failures, he noted, had led to “various infractions, including reported cases of immoral behaviour, poor water and electricity supply, student violence, unauthorised movement at night, and the sharing of facilities with unknown tenants.”

“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” he added.

In response, MAAUN has directed all students residing in the affected hostels to vacate the premises immediately after the current semester examinations.

The university further warned students against maintaining any further connection with the hostels, emphasizing that the decision was made to ensure a “safe, secure, and morally upright accommodation environment.”

The university also noted that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies to enforce the directive and ensure full compliance.

Students and parents seeking alternative accommodations were advised to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, via [email protected] for a list of approved and secure hostels.

The university stressed that it would not be held responsible for any consequences that may arise from failure to adhere to the new policy.
