The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State chapter, has called for urgent investigation into the killing of its legal adviser in Oru West LGA, Chinedu Nwowu.

DAILY POST recalls that Nwowu was murdered at Mgbidi by yet to be identified gunmen on Wednesday, January,22 .

The party, in a press statement, through its publicity secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, condemned the gruesome murder of the lawyer in very strong terms, pointing out that the assassination was a clear indication of unsafe environment where life was no longer valued.

The PDP spokesperson stated that Nwowu until his death was the Legal Adviser of the party in Oru West LGA and a dedicated leader whose immense contributions and dedication towards the party’s growth was greatly felt.

He stated that Nwowu was a young and vibrant lawyer, mobilizer, leader and go-getter, admired and respected across the board.

“The party uses this medium to commiserate with the entire Nwowu family over the tragic and irreparable loss, and pray the almighty God to grant the deceased’s soul eternal rest as well as give everyone affected by the great loss, including members of our party, the fortitude to bear it. we will surely miss him.

“Importantly, we call on the security agencies to ensure justice for the slain legal luminary by doing everything to fish out the perpetrators and bring them under the full weight of the law.

“PDP notes that Barr. Nwowu’s death, regrettably, calls to mind the insecurity ravaging the State, a situation where hoodlums, assassins, terrorists and kidnappers have continued to prowl confidently.

“Sadly, in the same month Barr. Nwowu was attacked and killed, unknown gunmen in one day killed no fewer than 27 people in coordinated attacks in Amaebu, Awo-Idemili, Eziawa, Umuhu-Okabia communities in Orsu Local Government Area of the State. This includes the butchering of 9 men in a shop, leaving them in the pool of their blood,” the party said.

The PDP spokesperson noted that what was most disheartening was that similar cases had been a common scene in the State since 2020.

The party called on the State Government led by Hope Uzodinma to wake up from what the party termed a deep slumber to confront the hydra-headed monsters ravaging the State.

“The Government cannot continue to sit comfortably on its unprecedented failure to protect the lives and property of Imo citizens despite the huge security votes and other resources at its disposal,” the release further stated.
