Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s powerful display in Lazio’s friendly against Burnley has left Mauricio Sarri convinced he can be a key figure this season, Footynaija.com reports.

Despite being impressed by Dele-Bashiru’s output so far, the Lazio manager is ready to demand more from the Nigerian midfielder.

It was a moment of raw strength from Dele-Bashiru against Burnley that caught the eye of the former Chelsea and Napoli boss. A robust shoulder-to-shoulder challenge won possession deep in midfield, launching the counterattack that ended with Matteo Cancellieri’s goal. Dele-Bashiru’s composed pass to Pedro in the build-up was just as crucial, reflecting the blend of physicality and calm decision-making Sarri is keen to nurture.

The 24-year-old, who joined from Turkey’s Hatayspor last summer, has steadily grown in influence during pre-season. Initially struggling to adapt to Sarri’s tactical demands, he began to flourish after an impressive outing against Galatasaray, with his performance in familiar English surroundings against Burnley cementing his progress.

Known for injecting dynamism into a sometimes predictable Lazio midfield, Dele-Bashiru offers direct running and physical presence, compensating for the occasional technical inconsistency. Sarri has made it clear he intends to build around these qualities but with one additional demand.

The Italian coach wants Dele-Bashiru to increase his goal threat, according to Il Messaggero via Lazio News24. Despite averaging just 52 minutes per match last term, he still managed five goals and three assists, a return Sarri believes can be improved.

Lazio face Atromitos in Rieti on Saturday, where Dele-Bashiru is expected to be encouraged to push further into attacking positions as Sarri seeks to end pre-season with his midfielder finding the net. This is a decisive summer for the Nigerian international.

Lazio’s first Serie A match of the season is an away fixture against Como on August 24.
