The Niger State Government has approached a Niger State High Court to settle out of court with Badeggi F.M Radio over the shutdown order.
The state governor, Mohammed Bago, had accused the radio station of public incitement and ordered the shutdown of the station.
He also ordered the Niger State Commissioner of Police and the commissioner for homeland security to profile the owner of the radio station.
Following this development, which drew condemnation from the media and civil society, Badeggi Radio dragged the Niger State government to court challenging the order.
Counsel to the radio station, Philip Emmanuel, filed a case before the Minna High Court to enforce its fundamental right.
At the resumed hearing in the suit filed on August 5, 2025, the counsel to the defendants, Jacob Usman SAN, announced that there was a move for an out-of-court settlement on the matter.
Usman told the court that he had a discussion with the counsel to the Plaintiffs about the need to resolve the matter out of court in the interest of peace and the interest of the generality of the people of Niger State.
The defence counsel said, “I have had a discussion with my clients, the Governor of Niger State and the Attorney General of Niger State, that we need to resolve the matter, and he agreed.
“And the counsel to the Plaintiffs also agreed that the matter should be resolved in the best interest of his clients. We have informed the Court as such.
“We have taken a date for the 3rd of September 2025 to report on our out-of-court settlement,” Usman told the newsman shortly after the court session.
