THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 16 bye-elections will take place this Saturday, August 16, 2025, across 12 states in Nigeria.
The commission said in a statement issued yesterday that the the polls will cover federal and state constituencies as well as senatorial districts.
Voting will commence at 8:30 a.m. in designated polling units within the affected areas.
INEC emphasized that only individuals with a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registered to a specific polling unit will be permitted to vote there.
“Voters shall only vote at polling units where they are registered,” the notice read.
The commission also reaffirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for accreditation, maintaining its stance of “No PVC, no voting.”
INEC concluded by assuring the public of its commitment to credible elections, reiterating its mission of “making your vote count… consolidating our democracy.”
