The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of figure manipulation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, describing them as baseless.

Naijaonpoint reports that the ADC had recently claimed that the online pre-registration exercise in Lagos and some other states was being manipulated to favour certain interests.

Reacting on Monday, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC Lagos, Taiwo Gbadegesin, said the claims were nothing more than a figment of imagination.

“The Lagos registration figures are consistent with past CVR trends and reflect the state’s demographic realities: a large, youthful and tech-savvy population,” Gbadegesin explained.

He recalled that during the last CVR between 2021 and 2022, Lagos recorded the highest number of registrations nationwide.

“The state’s total registered voters rose from 6,570,291 before the exercise to 7,060,195 afterwards. The current figures, therefore, align with this established pattern,” he added.

Gbadegesin further stated that the numbers are proof of INEC’s effective deployment of resources and its sustained public awareness efforts across Lagos.

He assured residents that the commission remains committed to transparency in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

“INEC has been consistent in promoting openness and accountability, and we will continue to ensure that every eligible voter in Lagos is given the opportunity to register without manipulation,” he said.
