The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at the ward level in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by four days.
Naijaonpoint reports that the exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, will now continue until Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to the electoral body.
INEC announced the decision following its Third Quarterly Meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Tuesday, where ongoing electoral activities and field reports were reviewed.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi.
“Following the review, the Commission approved a four-day extension of the ongoing Ward-level CVR exercise in the FCT,” the statement read.
“Consequently, the exercise which was earlier scheduled to end today, Wednesday, 8th October 2025, will now continue until Sunday, 12th October 2025.”
INEC disclosed that as of October 7, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations had been recorded across the FCT.
Of this figure, 38,528 were online pre-registrations, while 16,818 represented completed physical registrations.
The commission described the turnout as impressive, saying it reflected growing public interest in the electoral process and the success of bringing registration closer to the grassroots.
“This impressive turnout underscores the growing civic awareness among residents and the effectiveness of devolving the exercise to the grassroots,” the statement added.
INEC further clarified that the online pre-registration option remains suspended in the FCT. The commission explained that all pre-registered voters must complete their registration in person at designated centres in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
“As earlier announced, the online pre-registration option in the FCT remains suspended to enable all pre-registrants to complete their registration in person at the designated centres,” Eta-Messi said.
“This measure ensures the validity of their records in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.”
INEC appealed to all eligible citizens who have not registered to take advantage of the extended period to register or transfer their voter details within the FCT.
The electoral commission also warned against multiple registrations, describing it as a punishable offence under the law.
“All eligible citizens who have not yet registered should seize the opportunity of the extended timeline. However, multiple registration remains an offence punishable by law,” INEC stated.
The commission advised residents to visit its official website or social media platforms for the full list and addresses of registration centres across the six Area Councils.

INEC had earlier released the final list of candidates contesting the elections, featuring aspirants from 17 political parties who met the nomination deadline of August 11, 2025.
A total of 68 elective positions will be contested, six chairmanship and 62 councillorship seats across the six area councils: Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.
Campaigns for the elections are already underway, with INEC reiterating its readiness to conduct a free, fair, and credible poll.
