The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the supplementary election for Kaura-Namoda South Constituency in Zamfara State for Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The announcement was made by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mahmuda Isah, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau on Monday.

Isah assured political parties and voters that the commission had made adequate preparations to ensure a transparent and hitch-free process.

“We have put all necessary measures in place to ensure that this supplementary election is smooth, credible, and free of hitches,” he said.

Naijaonpoint reports that the supplementary election follows the earlier declaration of the constituency’s by-election as inconclusive by the Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University, Gusau.

According to Sa’adu, the margin between the leading candidate and the runner-up was less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in polling units where elections were cancelled.

This, he said, made a supplementary poll mandatory.

INEC also appealed to stakeholders, political parties, and security agencies to cooperate with the commission to ensure the success of the August 21 exercise.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it used military personnel to intimidate voters and party agents during the initial by-election.

Addressing journalists in Gusau, APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the claims as baseless and unfounded.

“The PDP is only making desperate attempts to cover up its looming defeat. Security personnel were deployed solely to maintain law and order and to prevent electoral malpractice by political thugs,” Idris stated.

He further accused the PDP of attempting to smear the image of security agencies in order to discredit the electoral process.

The APC insisted that the people of Kaura-Namoda South came out in large numbers to support its candidate, adding that the party’s performance at the polls was a clear reflection of its strength.

“The turnout in our favour shows the growing popularity of the APC in Zamfara and a clear indication of what to expect in 2027,” Idris added.
