WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an updated voter register and the official list of political parties ahead of the rescheduled local government elections in Rivers State. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) confirmed on Thursday that it had received the revised voter list and party details as part of preparations for the upcoming elections. RSIEC had earlier announced that elections for all 23 local government areas in the state would take place on August 9, 2025. The fresh polls became necessary after the Supreme Court annulled the October 5, 2025, local government elections in a ruling two weeks ago. The Supreme Court’s decision created a leadership gap at the local government level. Following the court’s ruling, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara directed all outgoing council chairmen to hand over to the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs), ensuring continuity in governance until new elections are conducted.
