‘Innovation, sustainability key to affordable housing’

A real estate expert and partner at Veritasi Homes Plc, Tobi Yusuff, has emphasised the importance of innovation and sustainability in delivering affordable housing without compromising quality.

Yusuff said this at the 2025 Veritasi Realtors’ Conference themed ‘Navigating the Future of Real Estate: Innovation, Investment & Impact,’ which is aimed at the professional development of realtors, held recently at the Lagos Business School.

Yusuff highlighted the need for strategic cost management, professional expertise, and innovative solutions to address housing challenges in Nigeria.

He said, “One of the key tenets of delivering great homes is ensuring that we provide the best prices to investors while maintaining high standards.

“We work with top professionals who have consistently delivered results, and sustainability remains a core focus in all our projects.”

Yusuff further pointed out that the deregulated energy market in Lagos presents new opportunities for developers to integrate cost-effective and sustainable solutions into housing projects.

He said, “Energy is a major concern for buyers and renters. People want homes that guarantee 24-hour power supply without excessive service charges.

“So, we are constantly thinking of ways to deliver properties that meet these demands while remaining financially viable.”

He also underscored the role of logistics and material sourcing in optimising project timelines and costs. “From budgeting for the Bill of Quantities to selecting the right materials and planning logistics, there is a lot of innovation involved in ensuring timely delivery,” he explained.

Despite these efforts, Yusuff acknowledged that balancing affordability with profitability remains a challenge.

“At the end of the day, we are running a business, not a charity. Every solution we implement must be financially sustainable while offering real value to homebuyers,” he added.

As Nigeria’s real estate sector evolves, Yusuff stressed that embracing innovation and sustainability will be key to meeting growing housing demands in an increasingly competitive market.
