The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to shut down on or before Friday, November 28, following heightened security concerns in the nation’s capital.
The directive was contained in an internal memo issued on Tuesday by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services, FCT Secondary Education Board.
In the memo addressed to principals and heads of schools, the FCTA instructed that all academic activities must cease without delay, stressing the need for a coordinated and safe dismissal of students.
The administration also mandated schools to promptly notify learners, staff, and parents of the closure.
The memo further directed school authorities to reschedule all scheduled academic activities in compliance with the closure order.
It added that schools should prepare to resume on the next official school day, unless the administration issues new instructions.
Naijaonpoint reports that this comes on the heels of a rise in attacks on schools in parts of the country.
On November 12, 25 female students were abducted by bandits from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi state.
On November 21, the Niger state government announced that bandits had abducted several students and members of staff from the St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara LGA.
The Catholic diocese of Kotangora said 315 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers, were abducted from the school.
