The former lawmaker representing Zamfara Central senatorial district, Kabiru Marafa, on Wednesday extended his support for President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria.
Marafa, who was in the Senate from 2011 to 2019, stated this on Wednesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He said, “I strongly support the President of America, Donald Trump, for issuing that threat.
“I differ with a lot of Nigerians because most Nigerians look at it from the perspective of sovereignty, patriotism, which I subscribe to. But of what importance is sovereignty to a dead man?”
According to him, Trump’s comments put pressure on the Nigerian government to address insecurity in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio, has revealed that the United States is implementing decisive measures against those responsible for alleged atrocities and violence targeting Christians in Nigeria and worldwide.
Naijaonpoint reports that the President Donald Trump administration has already restricted visas for human rights abuses and sharply curtailed visas in general, especially for people from developing countries.
The State Department will now restrict U.S. entry visas for any individuals or officials who “knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.”
The new policy explicitly applies to Nigeria as well as other governments and individuals engaged in the persecution of people based on their religious beliefs.
He said, “The United States is taking decisive action in response to the atrocities and violence against Christians in Nigeria and around the world. The state department will restrict U.S. visas for those who knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom. This visa policy applies to Nigeria and other governments or individuals that persecute people for their religious beliefs.”
