Governors of the South-West states will converge on Ibadan on Monday for an unscheduled emergency meeting to deliberate on pressing regional issues, with security concerns expected to dominate discussions.
Naijaonpoint reports that the meeting, to be held behind closed doors at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, is being hosted by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
All six governors from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti are expected to attend the strategic session.
Although specific details remain unclear, sources who spoke with Vanguard said the meeting was urgently convened in response to rising security threats across the region.
The governors are expected to examine recent developments, strengthen joint security interventions, and fast-track coordinated responses to emerging criminal activities.
Beyond security, the session will also focus on accelerating infrastructural development and deepening regional integration under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).
The governors are expected to review the operations of the Amotekun Corps, the regional security outfit, with a view to enhancing its capacity in the face of new challenges.
Monday’s meeting is expected to yield renewed commitments and strategies to safeguard lives and strengthen the security architecture across the South-West.
