Terrorists have killed a police officer identified as ASP Godwin Otse along Otobi Road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports on Tuesday, the attack occurred on Sunday while the officer was travelling with his brother.
According to the brother, their vehicle was ambushed at about 5:45 p.m., when armed men opened fire on them, leaving the officer with fatal gunshot injuries.
A counter-insurgency analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed details of the incident on X, said the suspected terrorists were wearing military camouflage at the time of the attack.
Makama revealed that the incident was reported at about 6:45 p.m. on January 11 by a family member of the deceased. He explained that ASP Otse, a Police Special Constable attached to the Kano State Police Command, was travelling in an ash-coloured Honda Accord when the attackers struck.
“The assailants, believed to be armed terrorists dressed in army camouflage, opened fire on the vehicle, fatally wounding ASP Otse,” Makama stated.
The wounded officer was reportedly rushed to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
His body was later deposited at the hospital morgue, while police recovered his identity card at the scene of the attack.
