Insidious 6 Production Update Confirms Filming Progress

Insidious 6 gets a major production update from Blumhouse one year after the upcoming horror sequel’s release date was delayed. Insidious 6 was confirmed in May 2024, following the major box office success of the fifth installment, Insidious: The Red Door. Filming began in September 2025 in Melbourne, Australia, while the movie itself will take place in New England, US.

Now, the official Insidious X account has confirmed filming for Insidious 6 has wrapped, confirming the movie is still going to come out on August 21, 2026. This comes after the film was originally supposed to be released on August 29, 2025, before being removed from Sony and Blumhouse’s release schedules in December 2024. Plot details about the new movie remain under wraps, including whether it will follow up from Insidious: The Red Door‘s post-credits scene. In the final sequence of the film, the light over The Further’s door came back on, even though Josh and Dalton had sealed it during the film’s final act. The meaning behind this has yet to be revealed.

However, the cast of Insidious 6 will feature a familiar face in Lin Shaye, who returns as Elise Rainier from the series’ previous installments. Other cast members include Brandon Perea, Amelia Eve, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, Island Austin, and Laura Gordon. Their roles remain undisclosed as of writing, other than Perea will be portraying the lead in the sequel.

This isn’t the only movie in development for the franchise, either. A spinoff titled Thread: An Insidious Tale is also set to happen, with Jeremy Slater writing and directing. Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani will co-star in the film as well. But, with Insidious 6‘s release date approaching and filming now completed, the spinoff is still some time away.

However, Insidious 6 seems poised to continue the story of the franchise, even with an almost entirely new cast. Even without anything revealed as of writing, Elise’s return signifies the Further is going to feature as a core danger yet again. However, the way it comes back remains unclear, including whether it could tie into the Lambert family saga.

With filming complete, Insidious 6 will be entering post-production, preparing for its release next summer. It’s not clear if The Red Door‘s $189.1 million box office against a $16 million budget can be repeated without more than one familiar, returning face. But the franchise’s longevity may play to its favor as a new story begins.
