Investors Trade N149.755bn Stocks in 174,267 Deals on NGX in Five Days

Last week, at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited, the All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 5.07 per cent to 141,263.05 points and the market capitalisation rose by 5.08 per cent to N89.373 trillion.

Similarly, all other indices finished higher apart from the insurance and energy indices, which depreciated by 1.22 per cent and 0.48 per cent, respectively, while the ASeM index closed flat in the five-day trading week.

It was observed that investors bought and sold 4.847 billion stocks valued at N149.755 billion in 174,267 deals, in contrast to the 3.691 billion stocks worth N112.261 billion transacted in 138,250 deals in the previous week.

The financial services industry led the activity chart with 3.314 billion shares valued at N61.084 billion traded in 70,239 deals, contributing 68.37 per cent and 40.79 per cent to the trading volume and value, respectively.

The consumer goods sector followed with 326.455 million equities sold for N19.777 billion in 23,764 deals, and the services counter with 279.737 million shares worth N3.947 billion in 12,794 deals.

FCMB Group, Fidelity Bank, and Universal Insurance accounted for 1.245 billion equities valued at N15.825 billion in 9,250 deals, contributing 25.69 per cent and 10.57 per cent to the total trading volume and value, respectively.

Business Post reports that 54 equities appreciated compared with 60 equities in the previous week, 49 stocks depreciated versus 43 stocks a week earlier, and 43 shares remained unchanged versus 44 shares recorded in the previous week.

UAC Nigeria ended the week as the best-performing stock after it chalked up 60.69 per cent to end at N88.30, MeCure gained 41.52 per cent to close at N15.85, Custodian Investment appreciated by 27.87 per cent to N30.00, Veritas Kapital grew by 23.01 per cent to N1.39, and Tripple Gee surged by 22.51 per cent to N4.30.

Conversely, Abbey Mortgage Bank was the worst-performing equity after it dropped 34.13 per cent to settle at N5.27, FTN Cocoa declined by 20.30 per cent to N5.77, Cornerstone Insurance depleted by 15.99 per cent to N4.15, NAHCO contracted by 15.13 per cent to N99.30, and The Initiates moderated by 14.76 per cent to N13.75.
