The Israeli military confirmed on Thursday morning that its air force intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen.
According to the Israeli military, the projectile was intercepted early in the morning, detected shortly after 4 a.m. and successfully destroyed before triggering air-raid sirens, as it posed no direct threat to populated areas.
Naijaonpoint understands that the Iran-aligned Huthi rebels had earlier claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to Reuters, they stated the munition was a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” aimed at Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s main international gateway.
The Israeli military corroborated the interception but did not confirm the target cited by the Houthis.
This latest missile intercept comes amid a persistent wave of cross-border tensions. Since October 2023, following Hamas’ attack on Israel, the Houthis have launched drones and missiles at Israeli targets, allegedly in solidarity with Palestinians.
Attacks paused during a Gaza ceasefire but resumed upon its collapse in March.
In a notable incident on May 4, 2025, a Houthi missile struck the perimeter of Ben Gurion Airport. Interceptors failed to stop it, leaving a crater near the terminal and injuring eight people.
Flights were suspended for days following the attack.
In December 2024, Israeli air defenses couldn’t stop another missile, also labeled Palestine 2, which hit a playground in Tel Aviv, injuring at least 16 people and exposing vulnerabilities in their defense systems.
In response to these provocations, Israel has expanded its countermeasure arsenal.
In June 2025, it carried out its first naval strike against the Houthi-controlled port city of Hodeidah, targeting a suspected weapons smuggling hub.
