The 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has demanded the creation of a state of Ibadan during his coronation ceremony.
Naijaonpoint reports that the coronation ceremony was attended by Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, a former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, and a former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke.
Ladoja, while addressing the people of Ibadan after receiving the Staff of Office from Governor Seyi Makinde, asked President Bola Tinubu to make the creation of Ibadan State happen before 2027, stating it is the priority of the people.
Speaking in Yoruba, the monarch said, “My people sent me a message to Mr President. Mr President, they said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”
Meanwhile, the Balogun of Ibadan-designate, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has explained why the coronation of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will be smooth and devoid of rancour.
Speaking with Punch on Thursday, Ajibola noted that the circumstances surrounding Ladoja’s ascension to the throne had united the kingmakers, unlike the disagreements that trailed the emergence of the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Ajibola, who was Otun Balogun during Oba Olakulehin’s selection, recalled that he had opposed the process then, insisting that the late monarch should be given more time to be fit for the throne.
