President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu observed on Wednesday that, in its one hundred years of existence, no African country has ever hosted the Commonwealth Games.

Based on the observation, President Tinubu called on the Commonwealth nations to support Nigeria in its bid to host the Commonwealth Centenary Games in 2030.

He said awarding Nigeria the hosting right would send a message of unity and a powerful message that Africa is not only part of the story, but central to the future of the Commonwealth.

Taking to his 𝕏 account, the Nigerian leader wrote, “To the Commonwealth Family,

“It is time for Africa. After 100 years of the Commonwealth Games, they have never been hosted on African soil. By bringing the Commonwealth Centenary Games to Nigeria in 2030, you will send a powerful message that every region of the Commonwealth matters, and that Africa is not only part of the story, but central to its future.

“Nigeria is the gateway. Africa is the stage. The Commonwealth is the family. Let us make history together in 2030. Let us complete the circle of Commonwealth unity.

“The dream must be realized. The time is now.”

Naijaonpoint recalls that President Tinubu had earlier expressed confidence that Nigeria is ready to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, promising that the country will deliver a world-class competition that reflects Africa’s diversity and potential.

The President, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the declaration when he received the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Addressing the delegation, he assured them that Nigeria is not only capable of hosting but eager to make history.
