‘It Is True That They Are Putting Pressure On Me’ – Gov Mutfwang Speaks On Joining APC

Caleb Mutfwang

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has confirmed that he is under pressure from political figures to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos over the weekend, the governor, however, dismissed the possibility of switching parties, insisting that only divine authority and the will of the electorate could determine his political future.

“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party, one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people. Have you asked me to go anywhere?” Mutfwang asked, as the audience chorused a resounding “No.”

His comments come weeks after APC stakeholders in Plateau State dismissed speculations that the governor was planning to join their ranks.

At a recent meeting in Jos, party leaders unanimously voted against a motion proposing Mutfwang’s possible defection.

The motion, moved by Festus Fuanter, a former deputy national secretary of the APC, was rejected through a voice vote.

“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Fuanter declared, adding that the APC was confident of its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting, Mutfwang described the rejection as unnecessary, claiming that many APC members would actually welcome him into their fold.

“So, those who are rejecting me for what I didn’t even ask for are wasting their time. The truth is that 60 to 70 percent of the people in the APC in Plateau would be happy to have us join them. They know I will not do that and that’s why they’re angry and twisting things,” the governor said.

He added that he would not dwell on the matter, concluding that “It’s a story for another day.”
