The Presidency has asserted that President Bola Tinubu‘s call for the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, to resign in the wake of the 2014 insecurity was legitimate.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ programme, while responding to an old statement made by Tinubu, in which he asked Jonathan to resign due to insecurity and the kidnapping of the Chibok girls by terrorists.
In an old 𝕏 post, Tinubu had said, “Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”
Speaking on the issue, Bwala said calling Jonathan to resign was legitimate, but calling Tinubu to resign is not.
According to him, Tinubu has a solution to the current insecurity, unlike Jonathan’s administration, which was in denial about the abduction of the Chibok girls.
He said, “When Asiwaju called for then-President Jonathan to resign, it was a legitimate call. Now, it’s not legitimate to call for President Tinubu’s resignation.
“Being confronted with a problem is not a problem, but when you lack a solution to solving a problem, then you have a problem. Because in life, there is no part of this planet where there are no security situations.
“I was telling my guys at the BBC that the crime rate in the United States is higher than the crime rate in Nigeria. People in a democratic setting have the right to say what they want, but the next thing is you back up what you said.
“If you believe that calling on the president to resign is a legitimate call, then begin the process; otherwise, it will be laziness on the part of the government to be concerned about individuals exercising their rights of expression.
“In the days of former President Goodluck Jonathan, they didn’t have any idea of a solution because they were in denial about the Chibok girls’ abduction.”
