Nigerian gospel singer Ebuka Hillary popularly known as Ebuka Songs has apologized to Christians and others offended by his July livestream with TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat also known as Peller.
Naijaonpoint reports that session, held at Ebuka’s residence, featured worship, prayer, and a moment where Peller spoke in tongues.
The clip went viral online and drew mixed reactions, with some praising the session and others condemning it as inappropriate.
Critics questioned Ebuka Songs’ spiritual calling and expressed concern over the display.
The Midnight Cry singer had responded to criticism during one of his ministrations, defending himself with biblical references, but his tone drew further controversy, with some viewing it as arrogant.
Fellow gospel artistes and content creators later advised caution in handling public criticism.
In response to the backlash, Ebuka Songs posted a video on Instagram apologising for both the livestream and his earlier reaction.
He explained that his actions were misinterpreted and said it was never his intention to offend anyone.
He acknowledged that reactions can sometimes fall short of godly character and asked for forgiveness from anyone hurt by the events.
He wrote:
He said, “I want to use this opportunity to address the recent development around the live streaming of the young man (Peller) who came to my house. You know, we had the moment together, and some of the things that happened that were not processed at the scene. So, if there is anybody who was offended by that action, I apologise. And then my reaction as well, I apologise.
“That was not my intention. That was never my intention to talk. I’ve never had to speak out, even when people say things about me. But it’s okay. It’s possible to react in the type of way that is not in the character of God, and I apologise. If anyone is taking offence at any of those actions, I sincerely apologise. We are all God’s workmanship, and we’re working into his perfection. So, every day we are working, you know, in God’s knowledge.”
