The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has denied reports claiming that he is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naijaonpoint reports that Buni made this known through his Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, in an interview with Punch on Wednesday in Damaturu, the state capital.
Mohammed described Buni’s defection report as empty speculation and advised that it should not be taken seriously.
The Governor’s Media Aide stated that Buni, being a two-term governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, would be the last person to leave the ruling party.
He warned speculators to always be mindful of their claims, especially when it comes to credible and loyal party members, such as the Yobe governor.
He added, “It’s a wild dream of the author. Someone had earlier speculated this and was debunked. It’s an empty speculation.”
In other news, a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) recently claimed the lives of at least four individuals and injured no fewer than 21 others along the Katarko-Goniri Road in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The victims were reportedly en route to the well-known Buniyadi market when their vehicle triggered the suspected IED.
Naijaonpoint learnt that the remains of the four deceased individuals have been taken home for burial, while the others are currently receiving medical care at a specialist hospital and the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, respectively.
The Gotala community, where the incident occurred, is situated on the outskirts of the Sambisa forest, an area where suspected Boko Haram insurgents have been active for the past fifteen years.
According to Daily Post, eyewitnesses who spoke to reporters indicated that vigilantes and military vehicles had also driven over the concealed IED on Thursday along the same route, resulting in numerous casualties.
