As part of the punishment, Barcelona supporters will be barred from attending the club’s upcoming match against Red Star Belgrade on November 6. The club has also been fined €10,000.
The sanction was triggered after a section of the fans displayed a black banner with the words “Flick Heil,” a Nazi-related phrase, in reference to Barcelona’s German head coach, Hansi Flick. This incident occurred during their 2-1 defeat in Monaco.
Barça Vice President Elena Fort was quick to condemn the act, labeling it a disgrace to the club.
“It’s disgusting and sad that someone who says they love the club acts in this manner. Everything has a limit. This can never be repeated. Never,” she stated firmly.
UEFA has charged Barcelona with “racism and/or other discriminatory conduct” following the incident. The club has faced repeated sanctions, with a similar issue occurring in April when fans made Nazi salutes at Paris Saint-Germain.
In addition to the current ban, Barcelona will be under a suspended sanction from last season, which prohibits away ticket sales for an additional match if future incidents occur.
The club has promised to take stronger measures to prevent such behaviour from happening again and will refund fans who had already purchased tickets for the Belgrade game.
Coach Hansi Flick addressed the issue briefly: “I think Elena Fort has given the right answer. Every word I will do now is too much for that. It’s not worth to say something. I think it’s done.”
