Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has raised alarm over what he described as a secret security plan to eliminate him.
He claimed his name was listed alongside Boko Haram members during a high-level security meeting in Abuja.
Gumi made the allegation while addressing worshippers, stating that he received an early-morning phone call from an unidentified source.
According to him, the caller warned that discussions at a top security meeting had singled him out as a target.
Speaking to his congregation, the cleric insisted that the information came from within official circles.
He said the caller clearly told him that his name had been mentioned among individuals marked for elimination.
“They called me from Abuja, that there was a security meeting. They said I have been marked; that I will be eliminated. And who are Boko Haram?”
Gumi maintained that the message was not vague or speculative. He claimed the caller stressed that his inclusion on the list was deliberate and alarming.
The cleric went further to question global counterterrorism narratives, especially the role of foreign powers. He suggested that the same forces claiming to fight terrorism were responsible for creating the problem.
“Even American, they said they came to fight terrorists, so who are the terrorists? They are the ones.”
Gumi accused the United States of playing a role in the emergence and continued existence of Boko Haram. He argued that the group’s activities were part of a larger agenda driven from outside Nigeria.
“They are the ones doing it, Boko Haram. You will hear something. Here won’t they put bomb?”
He also blamed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity on what he described as foreign-backed lies and destructive global policies.
According to him, these actions deepened social division and pushed the country further into crisis.
The cleric expressed disappointment with Nigerian leaders and religious authorities. He accused them of remaining silent while the country slid into chaos.
“Because of lies, you brought violence, but where are the leaders, what did they do?
What about the scholars? Where are they? Everyone has gone to hide in their corners.”
Gumi argued that Nigeria was being divided through narratives that portrayed one religious group as the sole victim of insecurity. He said such portrayals were dangerous and misleading.
He warned that no serious country would accept external interference aimed at tearing its people apart.
“Which country would agree to bring something in just to divide its people? There is no country that would accept that.
It would say either you bring all of us together, or you hold us and hand us over to them.”
The cleric accused political and religious elites of abandoning dialogue and leadership. He said Nigerians were now facing hardship, oppression, and denial of basic rights as a result.
“You brought us hardship, you broke us. You oppressed us, you denied us our rights.”
Gumi lamented what he described as the dangerous labeling of regions and communities along religious lines. He warned that fear, silence, and division were dragging the nation backwards.
“This is the kind of situation we are in. It is dragging the country down.”
