Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has disclosed that he has faced mounting pressure to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but maintained that he remains loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that only God and the people of Plateau can decide his political future.
Speaking at a dinner in honour of newly elected and outgoing PDP executives from the 17 local government areas of the state, held at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Mutfwang said he had made his stance clear to those attempting to lure him to the ruling party.
“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me, but I told them that only two people will authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the second is you people seated here,” Mutfwang stated. The audience immediately chorused “No” when he jokingly asked if he should consider joining the APC.
The governor dismissed reports suggesting that some APC leaders had rejected overtures to bring him into their fold, describing such claims as baseless and motivated by fear.
“Those rejecting me for what I did not look for are engaging in a useless exercise. The truth is that 60 to 70 percent of APC members in Plateau would gladly have us in their party; they are only biting their fingers,” he said.
