Nigerian rapper Panshak Henry Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, has lamented the disrespect he has received in the music industry.
In his latest interview, he noted how he has done many things for Africa and Nigerian music, but people often disrespect or sleep on him. He further noted how he was the first African artist to go on the BET stage to receive an award, had done a deal with Jay Z, and was also the first artist to be on Breakfast Club.
The rapper, tooting his horns, said he has done so many amazing things in life and in his career. He further bragged that he doesn’t make music for accolades or respect, as giving artists titles like legend, king, and OG doesn’t move him.
Ice Prince also bragged about being the only artist who left his record label without drama. He noted how his former label mates, Jesse and Brymo, left the label with drama. Explaining why, he said he isn’t a drama person and doesn’t like drama.
“I’m the first African artist to go on the BET stage and collect the BET award. I am one of the only artists, probably in the world, who left his record label without any drama. Pretty much, there was drama with everybody, Jesse left with drama, and Brymo left with drama. I am not a drama person; I don’t like drama.
I have done so much for Nigeria and Africa, but people always disrespect or sleep on me. I don’t make music for accolades or respect.
You see all these titles like “Legend,” “King,” “OG,” etc. I don’t even like them. For me, music is beyond the accolades or awards that come with it.
I’ve done some amazing stuff for my career, and I’ve done a deal with Jay Z before. I was the first African artist on the Breakfast Club. Done so many things in my life, and you think I am making music for that”.
Similarly, singer Terry G responded to those trolling him for his dead career, letting them know that legends are respected for life. Using the Hollywood music couple Beyonce and Jay Z as a case study, he noted how their impact is honoured. However, in Africa, especially Nigeria, people are quick to discard their own, and that’s why they believe their ancestors are evil, while Western ancestors are seen as gods.
In 2020, Ice Prince cried out to God for a hit song. The Angas-born rapper and producer, whose first hit song is “Oleku”, told God to help him write another story and revealed that he prays daily for success.
In 2022, the rapper was arrested for abduction and assaulting a Police officer. The ‘Oleku’ crooner was arraigned before the court by the Lagos State Police Command on a three-count charge of assault, obstructing a policeman from carrying out his statutory duties and abduction.
He was later released from the Nigerian correctional centre in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Speaking out, Ice Prince took to his Twitter page to write about the importance of freedom.
Last year, the Oleku singer denied being in a 12-year relationship with media personality Moet Abebe, stating he wasn’t in the right frame of mind. He revealed that though he is a lover boy and falls in love deeply, it has been hard finding love. He noted how his album has also taken up much of his time and added that relationships are a financial burden.
