A new trailer for Wuthering Heights has been released. The highly-anticipated adaptation stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi and hails from Emerald Fennell, director of Promising Young Woman and Saltburn.
Originally adapted from Emily Brontë’s novel published in 1847, the romance follows Catherine (played by Robbie) and Heathcliff (played by Elordi) as they navigate their destructive, forbidden love in the Yorkshire moors. It’s a gothic tragic love story with central themes of social class, passion, revenge, and obsession.
Fennell’s movie marks the 11th adaptation of the novel, with the last movie being released in 2011 starring Kaya Scodelario and James Howson. Music has also been inspired by Brontë’s novel, including Kate Bush’s classic track titled “Wuthering Heights.”
Musician Charli XCX is composing several songs for the soundtrack to accompany this new adaptation and recently released a song titled “House” in a collaboration with former The Velvet Underground member John Cale.

Elordi is currently riding high after his role as The Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein was released on Netflix this month (November) to rave reviews, with many praising Elordi’s moving performance of a character widely misunderstood. The adaptation currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 86%.
The actor is also known for his roles in Euphoria, The Kissing Booth, and Saltburn. The actor is set to appear in The Dog Stars alongside Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin.
Robbie is known for her roles in Suicide Squad, Barbie, and The Wolf of Wall Street. The actress is rumored to be starring in Warner Bros. attempt at rejuvenating action franchise Ocean’s, which began with Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, alongside Bradley Cooper. The plot is largely under wraps, but filming is expected to begin next year.
Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights certainly keeping the passion and obsession as well as being a whole new sensuality to the movie if the trailer is anything to go by. In one heartwrenching moment, Robbie’s character, Catherine, asks Elordi’s character, Heathcliff, “Why did you leave me?” after which he responds, “Why did you betray your own heart?” This is, of course, due to Catherine’s engagement to the successful Edgar Linton (played by Shazad Latif).
The director explained earlier this year that her goal in adapting Brontë’s novel was to bring the primal and sexual experience she felt to life when Fennell first read Wuthering Heights in her youth.
Wuthering Heights will be released in theatres on Valentine’s Day (February 14) 2026.
