Jahman Anikulapo receives prestigious UNESCO Defender of Cultural Rights Award 2024

This is in recognition of his tireless efforts in promoting and preserving African culture, both locally and globally.

Upon receiving the award, Anikulapo expressed his gratitude saying: “I am honoured to be conferred with the ICPDH UNESCO recognition for cultural rights defenders.

“Art liberates, culture elevates, humanity is divine. Arts and culture are the two special vehicles I have relied on and deployed in my advocacy for the promotion and preservation of human values and principles in my over four decades of endeavours as a literary and performing artist, journalist and advocate.

“I am ever convinced that sanity, dignity and the elevation of collective humanity can be easily achieved through intentional, effective and appropriate cultural education for all members of the human family.

“I am indeed doubly honoured to be recognised for the modest work I have done and I am assured that I should not relent in the pursuit of my life’s mission; advocacy for the betterment of our common humanity.”

Anikulapo’s recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of championing cultural narratives to elevate the entire African story.

His award is a significant boost for Nigeria and Africa on the global stage, and he has reaffirmed his commitment to continuing his advocacy for the betterment of humanity through cultural education.
