THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has granted an extension for universities to submit ...-UTME screening results of underage candidates who participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the development in a statement today noting that the decision followed consultations with the affected institutions.
He revealed that reminders had been sent via email to universities that failed to meet the earlier deadline.
Despite the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination results by the National Examinations Council on September 17, many institutions had yet to comply, Benjamin said.
He urged them to forward the pending results without further delay.
According to him, 23 out of 71 universities missed the September 15 deadline.
He added that all public universities are now required to upload their recommended candidates to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) on or before September 30, while private universities have until October 31.
Benjamin stressed that the extension was necessary to meet the overall admission deadlines—October 30 for public universities and November 30 for private universities.
A breakdown of the affected schools shows the University of Lagos leading with 39 underage candidates, followed by Nile University, Abuja (18), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (15).
Other institutions include the University of Abuja (12), University of Uyo (9), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (8), and David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu (6).
In total, 135 underage candidates are involved across the 23 universities.
Earlier in August, JAMB announced plans to conduct a special screening for over 500 underage candidates who met the requirements for admission into the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that a technical committee would handle the exercise between September 22 and 26 at designated centres in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri.
Oloyede further explained that while over 41,000 underage candidates sat for the 2025 UTME, only a little more than 500 were eligible to proceed to the next stage of the admission process.
