The DC Universe will eventually feature Batman as DC Studios is developing The Brave and The Bold movie. A new reimagination of DC’s Dark Knight is in the works, which will join David Corenswet’s Superman and future heroes on the big screen in James Gunn’s superhero reboot.

Prior to the DCU reboot, Warner Bros. had already launched The Batman universe, from filmmaker Matt Reeves, focusing on a younger take on the hero, portrayed by Robert Pattinson. But once Gunn and Peter Safran’s new franchise was announced, many have voiced their opinions about wanting to see his Bruce Wayne in the main continuity.

Gunn, who stays engaged with the audience through his social media platforms, has tackled the question numerous times about Pattinson possibly joining his universe. A user asked the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director how he feels about those who are passionate about seeing the two worlds merge, as he responded with the following:

Gunn responded with, “I have no problem with people expressing what they want on both side of this very (not) important issue and don’t understand the anger people are showing to each other about it.” The Superman and Man of Tomorrow director previously stated to the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast on December 5, 2024, that “I’ve contemplated it,” before eventually settling on keeping Reeves’ property as Elseworlds.

Reeves recently said in an interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast on September 17, 2025, that “We haven’t talked about anything like that,” while adding that “Of course, it would be a lot of fun” if the merging concept ever came to fruition. The Batman Part II is slated to begin principal photography in spring 2026.

In a January 7, 2025, interview on Radio TU, Andy Muschetti, who has been attached as the director for the film since June 15, 2023, reacted to the merging desires. The Flash filmmaker said, “As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe.”

An actor hasn’t been cast yet, but several DCU properties have already foreshadowed their take on Batman, including cameos in Creature Commandos, visualizing there being a difference from Pattinson. The Brave and The Bold movie will focus on a version of the Caped Crusader who has been operating for years.

According to Gunn in a Threads response on September 27, 2025, the release date won’t be somewhere in 2030 or 2031, suggesting the film will come out in the coming years. While a writer is working on The Brave and The Bold script, a screenplay has yet to be finalized.
