2025 saw the return of Superman to the world of cinema as David Corenswet took on the iconic role for James Gunn’s DC Universe. The Man of Steel has come to life through the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate, with his summer blockbuster emerging as the highest-grossing superhero film of the year.

While it has been nearly five months since the film’s theatrical release, Gunn has continued to share more BTS looks from Superman, as he really unveiled new CGI test footage for Krypto on X. Check it out below:

Gunn also added in his post, “First test footage I got of Ozu as Krypto, playing with my cat.” He also clarified that, “Yes, this is CG (not the same thing as AI, so stop calling it that!)”

Framestore, Wētā FX, and Industrial Light & Magic worked on the visual effects for the DCU installment, as the three collaborated on bringing Krypto to life. The VFX is one of the many categories that Warner Bros. is currently putting Superman in with their FYC campaign.

The DC Studios film grossed $616 million at the worldwide box office, which every Marvel Studios movie that was released in 2025 failed to reach. The Fantastic Four: First Steps became the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest hit for this year after grossing $521,8 million worldwide.

Corenswet is set to return as the DC icon in the Man of Tomorrow movie, a follow-up to Superman, that Gunn wrote and is set to direct. The 2027 installment will see the hero having to join forces with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Rachel Brosnahan will also be back as Lois Lane, following her 2025 debut.

Superman is now out through home media release and on streaming, with the Man of Tomorrow film scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
