Jennifer Lawrence Is "Nervous" New Robert Pattinson Thriller Would Be Mistaken For Katniss & Edward Cullen's Fanfic

We are finally seeing an on-screen collaboration between Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, and the former star responds to how she hopes fans won’t react. The two play the lead roles in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love, which arrives in theaters tomorrow (November 7). Lawrence and Pattinson play a married couple and new parents, as Lawrence’s Grace deteriorates mentally while isolated in their cabin.

Lawrence became an international superstar playing Katniss Everdeen in the four Hunger Games movies, released from 2012 to 2015. However, she has had a highly prolific career outside YA dystopia, proving herself across genres, starring in another major franchise (X-Men), and securing four Oscar nominations and one win for Silver Linings Playbook.

Pattinson, meanwhile, was once one of the biggest heartthrobs in the world as vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga, which started to wind down just as The Hunger Games was taking off. There was more criticism of Twilight and Pattinson’s performance for him to escape, but today, he is a clear A-lister, collaborating with the likes of Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves.

However, audiences may be inclined to think of these two stars’ past massive franchises now that they are on-screen together. Lawrence recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Fallon noted that “all the Internet’s going crazy that Katniss and Edward are in a movie together.“ Lawrence responded that she hopes that is not all the movie’s release will be about.

“I’m very nervous that people are going to sprint to the theater thinking it’s like Katniss and Edward fanfic, and it’s not,” says Lawrence. “It’s like a very idiosyncratic, like poetic, work of art.” The Winter’s Bone star continued: “It’s great, but if you’re expecting fanfic, you’re going to be really disappointed. I’m just afraid it’s going to come out and everybody’s gonna be mad at me.“

Die, My Love debuted with a strong Rotten Tomatoes score and is characterized as a psychological thriller and a dark comedy — notably, the descriptor of “romance” is usually left out. Like its contemporary, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which was also released this year, Die, My Love is meant to be a distressing exploration of motherhood, with the protagonist’s partner being unreliable.

The movie’s marketing has made it pretty clear it does not align with the vision of fanfic Lawrence seems to be talking about, but old fans of Hunger Games and Twilight may still appreciate the collaboration for this reason amid an unsettling story.

Die, My Love also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek; though Lawrence seems unlikely to be a 2026 Best Actress nominee, the movie is attracting more than enough attention to be a success.
