Jeremy Renner has officially responded to Yi Zhou’s allegations against him. On Instagram, the filmmaker included a series of posts in which she claimed that she was threatened and sexually harassed by Renner, both in their personal relationship and when working together.
Yi Zhou’s allegations against Jeremy Renner include “personal and intimate photographs of himself” that Renner allegedly sent and an incident where he “threatened to call immigration/ICE” on her. In a text message that Zhou sent to another individual, during an evening where she and Renner were supposed to be discussing one of their projects, she described him as “violent” and having to lock herself in a bathroom out of fear of his behavior.
A representative of Renner’s has now shared with Variety that “The allegations being made are totally inaccurate and untrue.” Renner’s attorney, Marty Singer, told People a day earlier that Zhou’s allegations are “false, outrageous, and highly defamatory.”
According to Zhou’s Instagram posts, she and Renner began dating in June, after he sent “a string of unwanted/unsolicited pornographic images of himself via DM and Whatsapp” and “seduced” her by “loving me so much I believed in him/the power of love.” In another post, Zhou said that “This experience really shows the dark side of Hollywood and the smear campaign to deter women and Asian female filmmakers and women in general.”
Beyond their personal relationship, Renner and Zhou first collaborated on a Chronicles of Disney documentary about the life and legacy of Walt Disney and the company he created, although it was not produced by Disney. Zhou directed the documentary, which features interviews with Renner and other talent throughout multiple generations of Disney projects.
It was later reported that Renner and Zhou were teaming up again for the AI-animated film Stardust Future: Stars and Scars. Jeremy Renner was cast as the Oracle of Time, who is the narrator in the movie telling the story that goes from the universe’s beginning to the year 2080. The project was described as the first feature-length film made completely through the use of artificial intelligence.
