It has been almost four years since Jeremy Renner portrayed Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through his shared TV show with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. With The Multiverse Saga getting closer to its end, the fate of various MCU TV shows is still up in the air.
ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley recently interviewed Jeremy Renner ahead of the Mayor of Kingstown season 4 premiere on October 26 and got a new update on what the chances are for Hawkeye season 2. The MCU veteran, who has been with the franchise since 2011’s Thor, stressed that “it’s really not my decision to make.”
Renner added, “For a second season, that was always the idea to continue that narrative, even in the Christmas framework of it all, too, because they love that world in New York.” With the holiday setting playing a crucial role, the Clint Barton star concluded with, “There’s really no more beautiful place than New York until Christmas. After Christmas is kind of bleak.”
An alternative and undead version of Renner’s popular Marvel hero recently made his appearance in the world of animation in the Marvel Zombies TV show, which premiered on September 24, 2025, on Disney+. In terms of live-action, the actor hasn’t portrayed the MCU hero since Hawkeye episode 6, which debuted on December 22, 2021.
In a separate interview with ComicBook, Renner was asked if Clint has retired again and if he will force himself to come out of it for a big event like Avengers: Doomsday. He commented, “I think he started retired… but he’s always pulled out of retirement, you know.”
For him, he looks at the long-time Avenger member as “a family man; you always know where his allegiance lies, and he’s always come out of retirement, man.” But as long as he is alive, Renner sees the Marvel archer always getting back in the game, saying, “Until he’s killed, he’s always gonna be working.”
While Marvel Studios unveiled several members of the Avengers: Doomsday cast on March 26, 2025, Renner’s Hawkeye was not one of them. However, during CinemaCon on April 3, 2025, Kevin Feige confirmed that more characters will be announced, leaving the door open for Clint to maybe be one of them.
Principal photography for the team-up movie finished on September 19, 2025, and will be followed up with Avengers: Secret Wars. Hawkeye season 1 can be streamed on Disney+ right now, as Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
