JIGAWA: Govt approves hijab for female security personnel

This decision, communicated by the State Executive Council through the Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, was disclosed yesterday wduring a press briefing at the Government House in Dutse following the Council’s meeting.

According to Musa, the directive applies to three private security firms operating in the state and is part of the government’s broader effort to foster an inclusive and supportive environment, especially for women.

“Permitting female security operatives to wear hijabs enables them to observe their religious and cultural beliefs freely. This move is expected to enhance their morale and self-confidence,” Musa said.

The directive stems from a report by the Council Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security. It applies to female operatives among the 9,969 youths recently recruited.

“This decision reflects the administration’s commitment to upholding workplace policies that promote modesty, inclusion, and respect,” the commissioner added.

In addition to this policy, the Council also approved the release of N516.1 million to fund 184 return and 185 one-way flight tickets for Jigawa State students studying medical and related courses at Near East University in Cyprus.

Musa highlighted that this initiative demonstrates the state’s ongoing dedication to supporting education and the welfare of its students abroad, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare.

The Council also gave the green light for the inauguration of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW), set to begin in 2025. This initiative aims to promote youth talent in technology, design, entrepreneurship, and the arts.

“The JISCIW will serve as a platform to discover, celebrate, and support creative talent across the state, reinforcing the government’s commitment to education, innovation, and human capital development,” Musa stated.

He concluded by emphasizing that these initiatives collectively reflect the administration’s resolve to create a more inclusive, educated, and innovative society in Jigawa State.
