WATCH THE VIDEO HERE A violent clash between villagers and Fulani settlers in Jigawa State has left at least nine people dead and four others injured, according to the state police command. The conflict began when a group of suspected Fulani miscreants allegedly broke into a shop in Gululu village, Miga Local Government Area, and stole hibiscus and other provisions. In retaliation, villagers tracked the suspects to a Fulani settlement in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA. Upon arriving, the villagers were attacked by Fulani settlers armed with bows and arrows, leading to injuries. “The situation worsened when the villagers retaliated by setting Fulani homes ablaze across various locations in Miga and Jahun LGAs,” said DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State. Police teams were deployed to the scene to restore order. “Unfortunately, nine bodies were recovered, and the deceased were confirmed dead by medical personnel at hospitals in Jahun and Miga,” DSP Adam stated. The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, alongside senior officers, visited the area and convened an emergency meeting with stakeholders, including local leaders and representatives of Miyetti Allah, to prevent further violence. “Our priority is to maintain peace and prevent reprisal attacks,” CP Abdullahi said, adding that security patrols have been intensified in the affected areas and investigations ongoing to ensure justice is served. In an unrelated case, a 15-year-old girl, Zahra’u Dauda, was arrested for conspiring with her ex-lover, Lawan Musa, 22, to poison her husband’s food. The poisoning resulted in the death of a friend of her husband, while two others, including her husband, survived. Additionally, four houses were burned in Dutse Metropolis after an accident caused by two drivers allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities to maintain peace and security in the state.
