Jim Carrey reunited with a co-star from his $437 million fantasy movie 25 years later for the first time.

During the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Carrey and Taylor Momsen reunited on the red carpet. They haven’t seen each other since starring alongside each other in the Dr. Seuss adaptation How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which was released in 2000. Momsen spoke to People about the reunion and her favorite memories of the actor and stated:

“I just love that he was very protective of me. He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming Grinch and getting to know him so well, even in all the makeup, was just wonderful. To me, he was always Jim, and he was always in makeup. He was very protective of me, very kind, super funny, super animated, absolutely awesome.”

How the Grinch Stole Christmas became a cult classic and fan favorite for many despite poor reviews, including a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Dr. Seuss adaptation followed heartless loner, the Grinch (Carrey), as he attempts to ruin the residents of Whoville’s Christmas. Cindy Lou Who (Momsen) befriends the Grinch in an attempt to show him kindness and compassion.

Momsen was only five years old during the filming of the 2000 holiday movie and recalls that the moment felt “really powerful, [it had a] lasting impact on me as an adult now.”

Momsen addresses why the fantasy movie still stands the test of time and said that people love The Grinch because “the core of the story is so sweet, and it’s so heartwarming, and it has such a good message.”

Momsen is known for another well-known acting role in the hit teen drama Gossip Girl, where she starred as Jenny Humphrey. The actress quit the series and acting in general in 2010 to focus on her musical career and her band, The Pretty Reckless, where she is the frontwoman.

Carrey has had an illustrious career (The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Bruce Almighty), but has taken a step back lately, only appearing in a few movies, including Sonic the Hedgehog. However, he has been cast in David Robert Mitchell’s upcoming movie, Evergreen Pines and the Fading Summer.

Since Carrey’s major step back from the public eye has left many wondering what’s next for the actor, however, his reunion with his co-star, Momsen, signifies a shift in the actor’s life as he takes on more roles and appears at public events.
