Former President, Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Ghanaian leader, Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday visited Vice President Kashim Shettima in London to pay their respects to the late Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13.

Naijaonpoint reports that the meeting was part of a solemn gathering of dignitaries as preparations continue for Buhari’s repatriation and state burial in Daura, Katsina State.

Vice President Shettima is in London on the directive of President Bola Tinubu to coordinate logistics and accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.

The statement was issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha.

“The Vice President received both leaders as part of the tributes being paid to the late former president,” Nkwocha stated in a release titled ‘Jonathan, Akufo-Addo Visit VP Shettima in London, Pay Tribute to Buhari’.

The late president succumbed to complications from a prolonged illness at 4:30 PM on Sunday at a private London hospital.

In response to Buhari’s death, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared seven days of national mourning, with all national flags flying at half-mast both within Nigeria and at Nigerian missions abroad.

The government has also scheduled a state burial for Buhari, with his remains expected to arrive in Katsina by Tuesday, July 15, followed by interment in his hometown of Daura.
