Wicked and Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey has been named People‘s sexiest man alive for 2025, marking a first for the title. Bailey did his cover shoot for the feature at a beach south of London, accompanied by his dog Benson. “It’s been a secret, so I’m quite excited for some friends and family to find out,” says Bailey about this recognition.

Bailey is the first openly gay man to be given the Sexiest Man Alive crown, having come out publicly in 2018. Bailey’s career throughout the 2010s was a mix of television roles and notable theater work, culminating in him winning the Laurence Olivier Award (the British equivalent of a Tony) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical in 2019, for his performance in the West End revival of Company.

However, Bailey became an international superstar through Bridgerton, playing the eldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony, a supporting role in season 1 and the lead in season 2. Following this, Bailey received more mainstream opportunities, including co-leading (with Matt Bomer) the drama miniseries Fellow Travelers and starring alongside highest-grossing actor of all time Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Prior to Jurassic World in the summer of 2025, Bailey became a fan-favorite big-screen star playing Prince Fiyero in Wicked, starring alongside Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Following the 2024 musical set in the world of The Wizard of Oz breaking several box office records, audiences are eagerly awaiting Bailey and the rest’s return in Wicked: For Good.
