FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan has denied suspending former Central Bank Governor, Dr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, over allegations of $49.8 billion missing from the government’s coffers.

Jonathan made this statement at the launch of the book “Public Policy and Agents Interests: Perspectives from the Emerging World” in Abuja, where he claimed Sanusi was not sacked but suspended due to financial recklessness and misconduct.

“The one he raised that he was sacked because he blew a whistle that the Federal Government lost $49.8bn is not quite correct. He was not sacked. He was suspended because the Financial Reporting Council queried the expenditure of the CBN,” Jonathan said.

Sanusi countered Jonathan’s claims, stating he was “constructively dismissed” and maintained his stance on the missing funds.

“I was constructively dismissed. I continue to respect Jonathan and I don’t have grudges against anyone,” Sanusi said.
