Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan performed far better in office than the late former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.
George spoke on Tuesday during an interview with Arise Television.
He said Jonathan’s years in power gave Nigerians more stability and better living conditions compared to what they have experienced under Buhari and now under Tinubu.
He pointed out that the difference is clear in the economy and in people’s daily lives.
According to him, during Jonathan’s time, inflation was lower, interest rates were manageable, and the naira was stronger against the dollar.
“If you look at Jonathan’s period, ask any Nigerian what they have been feeling since Buhari’s period to Bola Tinubu’s period,” George said. “Check out the economic indices—is it the interest rate, the inflation rate, or the value of the naira compared to the dollar? Who is happy now? Whether you are rich or poor, you go to the market and something that used to cost about ₦5,000 is now about ₦25,000. And yet they claim they are managing the economy.”
The PDP leader said Jonathan’s government cannot be compared with the hardship and discontent that Nigerians now face. He insisted that the former president’s record remains better in many areas, including economic management and the welfare of citizens.
Speaking on speculations that Jonathan may contest in 2027, George noted that the former president would have a strong chance if he decides to run. “Anybody who is coming out will show their documents. Whatever Nigerians felt during Jonathan’s period and what they are feeling now under the APC government is clear. If Jonathan comes and he wins, he has a good record, much better than Buhari and Bola Tinubu together, much better,” he said.
