Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho has expressed his aspirations to make a return to the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho revealed this ambition during a press conference held on Wednesday, ahead of an eagerly anticipated Europa League match against his former club, Manchester United.

During the press conference, Mourinho reflected on the current struggles facing the Red Devils, a team he once managed with notable success.

Despite their underwhelming performances since his departure, he remains optimistic about their potential for future success. “I truly believe that they have a stronger squad than their current results suggest,” he stated.

“We’ve been closely monitoring their progress, and I do not doubt that, with time, they will find their footing and succeed again—sooner or later. I hope that this happens quickly, ideally before I make my return to the Premier League.”

In a further indication of his feelings towards United, Mourinho expressed a genuine sense of concern for the club’s current situation. He said, “I genuinely wish all the best for Manchester United. My time there was truly fulfilling; we won the Europa League and finished second in the league, which is no small feat.”

He continued, “If things aren’t going well for them right now, it deeply affects me. I cannot say I feel happy when United struggles, as I have fond memories of my time there, with mutual respect between myself and the fans.”

Currently, Manchester United find themselves in a precarious position in the Premier League, sitting in the 12th spot—a disappointing outcome for a club with such a rich history and high expectations.

Recall that Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho in December 2018 after two and a half seasons, during which he claimed the Europa League title, among other successes. Following his tenure there, he managed Tottenham Hotspur for just 17 months. He has also had two separate spells with Chelsea.

For the first time since he left Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, Jose Mourinho will face Manchester United as an opponent. He will coach Fenerbahce against the Red Devils at the Ulker Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 24.
