Sean Kingston and his mom, Janice Turner, are set to be sentenced separately in their shocking federal fraud case.
U.S. judge just shut down Turner’s request to be sentenced alongside her son. She was hoping to stand before the court on August 15, the same day Kingston is scheduled, but Judge David S. Leibowitz rejected her request.
Turner will now face her fate earlier, on July 11.
Back in March, both Turner and Kingston were convicted of running a scheme that scammed luxury goods and services using fake wire transfers and phony bank statements. Prosecutors say they leaned on Kingston’s celebrity to pull it off, using his celebrity status to dodge upfront payments.
The singer is also being charged with violating his two-year probation period for trafficking stolen property. In February, Ver Ver Entertainment sued him for breach of contract and fraud, alleging that he failed to pay for a 232-inch TV and a premium sound system.
If convicted on all counts, both face up to 20 years behind bars.
