Jumanji 4 is barreling ahead, with a new filming window and both new and returning actors set to star. The Jumanji reboot movies kicked off in 2017, quickly proving popular with audiences, leading to a sequel subtitled The Next Level in 2019. A follow-up, however, has been slow to get off the ground.
THR now reports that the untitled Jumanji 4 is preparing to get underway, with the film set to start shooting in November in Los Angeles to make its December 11, 2026, release date. The reboot franchise’s four main stars, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, are all expected to return.
Accompanying them will be a handful of other familiar faces, including Alex Wolf, Morgan Turner, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, and Awkwafina. The film, which will feature Jake Kasdan back in the director’s chair, will also be bringing in several new actors to accompany the returning stars, including Brittany O’Grady and Burn Gorman. Character details, however, are being kept under wraps, as is Jumanji 4‘s plot.
Though it’s not yet clear what the film will be about, the script hails from writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, who also co-wrote both Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level. Producers include Kasdan, Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia.
As for where audiences have seen Jumanji 4‘s new cast members, O’Grady has appeared in In What’s Inside (2024), Sometimes I Think About Dying (2023), and Black Christmas (2019). She’s also set to appear in Netflix’s buzzy new political thriller A House of Dynamite. On the small screen, she’ll be widely known for The White Lotus season 1.
Gorman, on the other hand, has appeared in projects like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and he can next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein for Netflix.
Though plot details remain under lock and key, Jumanji 4 is already likely to be a success given the reception to the past installments. Welcome to the Jungle grossed $962 million worldwide back in 2017, and The Next Level reached $801 million in 2019.
By the time the next Jumanji movie hits movie theater screens, however, it will have been seven years since The Next Level, and it’s possible audience interest will have waned somewhat. The movie will also be arriving as Johnson, primarily known for big-budget blockbusters, attempts to carve a new path in his career with smaller movies, such as this month’s The Smashing Machine.
It’s unclear what the reception to Jumanji 4 will be like next year, but with production getting underway in the near future, more news about the project is sure to start trickling out in the near future. Viewers can probably expect, for example, some social media posts from the film’s stars to hype the project up, and the response will be useful in gauging just how much demand there is for another installment.
