Presidential spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, has criticised the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his recent remarks regarding the Bola Tinubu administration.

Bwala, who serves as the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Tinubu, implied that Obi should refrain from commenting on matters related to June 12, 1993, as he believes the former governor of Anambra State was never part of the struggle for democracy.

According to him, Obi was abroad at the time, engaging in trade and hence lacked a history of involvement in the struggle.

During the Democracy Day celebration, Obi urged Tinubu to follow the examples set by former presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

Obi advised the President to take a cue from ex-President Yar’Adua by acknowledging that the means by which he attained power were flawed.

He further stated that the president should emulate Jonathan, who preserved Nigeria’s democracy by conceding defeat.

Peter Obi and his supporters have consistently claimed that irregularities marred the 2023 presidential election and that its outcome should not have been validated.

Obi also asserted that there is no democracy under Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a post via 𝕏 on Friday evening, Bwala expressed that the former governor should refrain from commenting on issues about Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Bwala wrote, “Please can someone confirm to me whether it is true that on June 12, 1993 and weeks after that @PeterObi Peter Gregory Obi was in Malaysia or somewhere in Asia doing buying and selling trading business?

“I searched the internet to see any of his involvement in the struggle for democracy, I couldn’t see any link ohh.”
