About 30 people have been reportedly killed following the invasion of suspected bandits in the Borgu local government area of Niger State.
The bandits, Channels Television reports are known to operate around the Kainji Lake National Park forest along Kabe District.
It was gathered that the bandits set the village market popularly known as Kasuwan Daji located at Demo village ablaze.
They were also said to have abducted scores of villagers and looted the wares of petty traders and other businesses in the market.
Sources who spoke on the incident said they suspected criminals invaded the community through the path to the expansive Kainji Lake National Park forest.
They also shot sporadically at residents while going about their looting spree, stealing mostly food items.
Confining the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun said: “A joint security team has visited the scene and over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack.”
He added, “Some were kidnapped, efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victims.”
Recall that this particular attack comes after some bandits invaded the St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State kidnapping over a hundred schoolchildren and staff of the school.
The abducted students were later released through the intervention of the Federal Government after spending over three weeks in captivity.
