Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, a staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) has been rescued from his abductors.
Akesinro regained his freedom on Saturday, August 30, 2025, following a successful security operation in Owo, Ondo State.
Recall that the health worker was abducted by some unidentified gunmen at his residence in Upenme in the Owo LGA of the state.
The unfortunate incident took place on Thursday night, some of his family members had said.
The successful rescue of the pastor from captivity was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Ondo Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade
Ayanlade in a statement said that operatives of the Owo Area Command worked in synergy with the Upenme Vigilante Group to deploy credible intelligence on the kidnapping of the health worker.
He said following the intelligence gathering, the operatives further embarked on an aggressive “bush-combing” operation between Thursday and Friday night.
“Their sustained efforts paid off when the kidnappers, confronted in a gun duel, were forced to flee, abandoning the victim. He was rescued unhurt, without any ransom being paid.
“He was immediately rushed to FMC Owo for medical attention and has since been joyfully reunited with his family,” Ayanlade said.
He also commended the operatives of the police and the local vigilante for their efforts in ensuring the successful rescue of the health worker.
