Operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, were brought to an abrupt halt on Thursday after a private jet suffered an incident while landing, forcing aviation authorities to shut the runway temporarily.

Sources at the airport told Daily Trust that the aircraft, a Gulfstream 400 with tail number 5N-PZE, was arriving from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, when the mishap occurred.

The jet, carrying 14 passengers and four crew members, reportedly landed at 2:16 pm before the incident occurred, prompting emergency protocols and the immediate closure of the runway.

A highly placed aviation source confirmed the development but said investigations would determine what went wrong.

“The cause of the incident could not be ascertained at the moment, but I am sure the appropriate authorities have been informed,” the source said.

When contacted, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Henry Agbebire, confirmed awareness of the incident.

In other news, passengers on the Abuja–Kaduna train service were left stranded on Thursday after the train developed a mechanical fault barely an hour into its trip from Kaduna.

Naijaonpoint reports that the train, which departed from Rigasa station shortly after 2 pm, was forced to halt its journey midway and then reversed back to Kaduna for repairs.

One of the passengers, who spoke to Leadership on condition of anonymity, said the crew could not immediately explain what went wrong.

“We didn’t understand what happened. The train suddenly started reversing back to Kaduna after stopping for a while,” the passenger said.
